2018 Honda CR-V Hybrid to hit the upcoming Frankfurt motor show

2018 Honda CR-V Hybrid to hit the upcoming Frankfurt motor show

Auto giants Honda is all set to showcase the forthcoming European specification CR-V SUV enriched with the goodness of a hybrid prototype.

The ‘Hybrid Prototype’ features a few unique styling tweaks which lay attention on the SUV’s electrical powertrain. What’s under its skin is a brand-new Intelligent Multi Mode Drive (i-MMD) complimented by a two-motor hybrid setup. It comprises of an electric motor, a 2.0-litre petrol engine, and not to forget a segregated electric motor generator.

The new system bids an adieu to the traditional gearbox which is replaced by the single-fixed gear ratio, in an endeavour to reduce the SUV’s weight and size. It utilizes the same powertrain as its predecessor earlier this year, but now it’s being prepared to be incorporated in Honda’s next SUV.

The system makes a smooth transition between its three driving modes while adjusting to the conditions and how the car is being driven. Low speed and urban driving is specifically taken care by the pure EV mode and a hybrid drive setting. The petrol engine not only works well to drive power to the wheels on motorways, but also delivers power to the electric motor and recharges the battery pack.

Other than the electric reveal, Honda has also unveiled 1.5-litre VTEC turbo petrol engine for the SUV’s European version. The engine is mated to either a six-speed manual gearbox or a CVT transmission. Only the car’s launch early next year will reveal any in-depth detail. Till then, Stay tuned!
