In what is termed as one of the most audacious engine replacements in the recent history, the luxury car makers, Rolls Royce have resolved to substitute its veteran 6.75-litre V12 with a twin-charged 3.0-litre 2JZ.
It is tough to comprehend what actually happened to this specific Phantom but the sources suggest that it apparently ‘lost coolant and melted’ in October last year, which made it difficult to either acquire the parts or it was too expensive. Anyway the luxury car brand’s Japanese owner decided against rebuilding it and turned towards J and K Power to fix a 3.0 L 2JZ-GTE inline six.
The company arranged for the 2JZ unit and renovated it with HKS manufactured internals, followed by introduction of a GReddy T78 turbo in addition to the HKS supercharger. Its unbelievable how effortlessly was the task accomplished, but it’s finally done – and it generates close to 900bhp, which as much as two times the original V12 had.
The gearbox too receives an upgrade, but it incorporates moving the gear selector away from the steering column towards the centre console. What’s even worse is the makeshift dials fixed smack-bang right in front of the originals.
