Maserati to take an electric way in 2019

As a firm response to the Petrol and diesel ban in UK, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles CEO Sergio Marchionne (CEO of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) has announced that from 2019 all new Maserati will be propelled by a hybrid or electric engines.

The move follows the footsteps of Volvo, who last month revealed that they would also be focusing attention towards hybrid travel from 2019. According to the FCA CEO, in a bid to enhance the transition towards electrification, more than half of the cars manufactured by them will definitely bring some form of electric power in use by 2022.

FCA incorporates auto-brands such as Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Fiat, Dodge and Maserati which are all set to benefit from the new tactic devised by FCA, who plans to pave way for electrification of all these brands longer down the line.

Maserati has also disclosed that their first electrified car will take the world by storm when it arrives in 2020. It shall derive its foundation and concept from Alfieri concept that made its first appearance in 2014 at the Geneva Motor Show (pic below). It is expected to be an electric two-seater sports car but the company is yet to give a confirmation of the further specifications of the car.

Before their all electric car debuts, Maserati will work wonders to introduce plug-in hybrid version to current product lines which also incorporates the Levante SUV.

As quoted by Marchionne who was initially reluctant towards the move, “We [FCA] have been reluctant to embrace that avenue until we saw clearer the path forward." What follows is the commitment to take Maserati to all new heights by means of electrification.
