The collaborative efforts of Toyota and Subaru have given rise to two of the most popular Japanese sports cars, namely the Toyota 86 and the Subaru BRZ. The Toyota 86 is due to be upgraded and there are confirmed reports that the sports car will be getting a new aggressive look.
The newer version will be launched around 2021 and car enthusiasts are speculating the conceptual form that will be endowed to the Toyota 86. Based on the information available, artists are coming up with conceptualized renderings that give a fair amount of idea about the final design of the Toyota 86.
Car enthusiasts have been eagerly exhibiting the designs ever since Tetsuya Tada, the Toyota 86’s chief engineer, revealed that the Japanese automobile giant is seriously contemplating over the suggestions made by various enthusiasts.
Aggressive Style
A more accurate artist’s impression envisions the updated Toyota 86 as a car that has more aggressive features like the muscular fenders and stylish front lines that have been borrowed from the Toyota C-HR. Moreover, the car will look more sporty due to its lower stance.
The Engine
The Toyota 86’s engine details are yet to be revealed but it is widely speculated that the car will be equipped with a new 2.4-liter turbocharged engine that delivers a power of 260 hp and a torque of 277 pound-feet. There is a possibility that the engine will be the same that is deployed in Subaru Ascent SUV.
The installation of a turbocharged engine will give rise to the need of a new platform; hence there is a greater possibility that the sports coupe will be based on a new architecture platform.
The next-gen Toyota 86 will be manufactured in Toyota’s factory in Gunma in Japan. The car will be fitted with Subaru’s Eyesight driver-assist suite of technologies that include pre-collision braking, lane keeps assist, blind spot detection, reverse automatic braking and pre-collision braking.
The next-gen Toyota 86 will be competing mainly with similar vehicles from Honda and Mazda. The car will appeal to customers who value power over price or fuel economy.
