A number of carmakers are relaunching their popular car models that had to be discontinued due to low demand. The BMW 8 Grand Tourer is one such vehicle whose upgraded version is due to make its way to the showroom in 2019. A conceptual model of the BMW M8 is being showcased at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. The BMW concept M8 Gran Coupe is so impressive that car enthusiasts wish that the showcased model makes its way to the production without any tweaks.
The four-door BMW M8 Gran Coupe is a performance-oriented version of the 8-series grand tourer that has been fine-tuned as a high-performance car. The ‘M’ prefix indicates that the coupe has been tuned and tested by BMW’s Motorsport division. This indicates that the M8 will have the classiness of the 8-series vehicle along with the dynamism borrowed from the M8 GTE racer car.
Sophisticated Style
A long bonnet along with a long wheelbase makes the BMW M8 look majestic. Furthermore, the gran coupe has been endowed with a feel of opulence due to gold accents and sharp feature lines. The car’s yellow-tinted headlights have been borrowed from M8 GTE and they flank the large kidney grille that is characteristic of BMW luxury vehicles.
Some of the other elements influenced by the M8 GTE are the wheels, the side-strakes, and the sports exhaust. Additionally, the concept car also features a typical CFRP (carbon fiber reinforced plastic) roof as well as CFRP air intakes.
The Powertrain
As of now, BMW hasn’t revealed the details regarding the M8 Gran Coupe’s powertrain. It is speculated that the production version will be equipped with M5’s 4.4-litre V8 twin-turbo engine that delivers a power of 600 bhp. The engine will be coupled with an 8-speed automatic transmission system that will be equipped with paddle shifters.
The BMW M8 will also get the switchable MxDrive system that will make the four-wheel drive vehicle operate as a rear-wheel drive but with more traction. The M8’s front and multi-link rear suspension along with the rear-wheel steering impart excellent driving experience as well as dynamics.
BMW’s M8 is positioned for the exclusively premium segment and it will face competition from rivals like Mercedes-Benz, Aston Martin, and Bentley. Will the M8 manage to succeed in Dubai by competing with cars like DB11 and Continental GT? Please share your thoughts with us in the comment box below.
