The Peugeot 508 has always been one of the elite family saloons that are commonly referred to as the ‘wardrobe on the wheels’. Suddenly, the French family car has found itself amidst fierce competition that has been triggered not only by popular German rivals like BMW but also by the upsurge in the demand of spacious SUV’s.
In order to face competition, the French carmaker has enlivened the model by making it more sleek, sporty and stylish. Peugeot is due to launch the second-generation of the family saloon will make its debut at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show.
The car will be based on Peugeot’s EMP2 platform and its details have been recently revealed by the company. The refined look, the improved aerodynamics and a range of engine options are the key features that impart a perfect combination of luxury and practicality.
Design and Dimensions
The new Peugeot 508 looks stylish and sharp due to the characteristic Peugeot grille design and aggressive front as well as rear lights. The frameless door gives the vehicle a distinctive look that makes it an eye-catching car.
Even though the new model is 80 mm shorter than before, the car has become wider by 20 mm. The trunk capacity has increased to 487 liters and the foldable rear seats allow us to utilize 1,537 liters of cargo space.
The Engine
There are six powertrain options that are available with the new Peugeot 508. There will be two variations of a 1.6-litre gasoline engine and the variants will be delivering 177 hp and 217 hp respectively. The gasoline engine will be paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission system.
Additionally, customers wishing to buy a diesel-engine car have a choice to choose between 1.5-litre and 2-liter capacities. The power ratings of the three BlueHDi diesel engine variants are 128 hp, 158 hp, and 177 hp respectively. The diesel engines will be coupled with either the 8-speed automatic transmission system or a 6-speed manual transmission system.
Customers can expect a plug-in hybrid version in 2019. Moreover, they can expect better fuel economy from the Peugeot 508 due to the reduction in the vehicle weight.
Interiors
The Peugeot 508’s interiors have been equipped with the carmaker ’s innovative i-Cockpit features that include compact steering, a 10-inch infotainment touchscreen and a head-up instrument for digital controls. The decluttering, the classiness and the advanced ergonomics make the journey pleasant, enjoyable and full of pleasure.
