Dubai is at the forefront of the car modification market as far as the GCC region is concerned. Modified cars from around the world have always caught the attention of enthusiastic Emiratis who won’t mind spending a fortune on a wild and an offbeat modified car.
One such car that has become the talk of the town is a £27k Ford Focus RS car that has been heavily modified by Richard Fox, a UK-based pub owner, who has spent £100K for modifying his car. Richard has packed his modified car with so much power that he rarely drives it and now it is more of an exquisite ‘piece of art’ and less of an automobile.
A grueling makeover project
Modifying the Ford Focus RS was a time to consume as well as expensive. The project was completed in a span of seven years. The first phase of the project included the changing the car’s interiors as well as exteriors. Key interior features that were modified were the seats, doors, steering wheel, sound system, interior lights and the panels.
The hatchback got an entirely new look and appeared swanky after Richard changed the bonnet, tires, lights, license plates and paintwork. Richard also decorated the car with stickers.
Tuning up the engine
In the next phase, Richard focused on tuning the engine to deliver more power. In fact, the car is almost ready to compete with a Ferrari and Richard is focusing on scaling up the power to 1,000 bhp. The details about the engine tuning are not known but Richard has performed this remarkable feat all on his own while working in his garage.
Typically, car modifiers rely on compression boosting, ignition tuning, throttle body injectors, velocity stack and synthetic lubricants to increase performance. However, this is the first time that an enthusiast has managed to boost the power without expert help.
Inspiring other modifiers
Richard Fox’s modified Ford Focus might inspire a large number of Emiratis who are likely to follow suit. Ford Focus is a popular hatchback that rivals the Volkswagen Golf in the Dubai car market. A modified version will definitely resemble a racing car that is ready to dominate the Dubai roads.
However, any such modification must be undertaken with caution as the UAE Government has introduced new rules that have put certain restrictions on car modifications.
