2018 Hyundai Kona: The SUV for the young and the restless

Most of the SUVs in the car market are positioned to attract customers who have large and outdoor-minded families. However, the Hyundai Kona is different from a standard SUV as it is designed to appeal to the ‘millennials’; the generation that lies between 28-35 age group.
The millennials have an unconventional outlook as they love to lead an action-filled lifestyle. Hence, instead of focussing on space Hyundai has concentrated on designing a compact SUV that ranks high on style, connectivity, and safety. The 2018 Hyundai Kona was unveiled at the Dubai Motor Show and the SUV has won accolades for its bold visage and well-chiseled bodywork.

The Design

The contours and the haunches of the exterior body endow the 2018 Hyundai Kona with a muscular personality. The SUV shares platform with the new Kia Stonic and it is provided with all the connectivity features like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and 4G connectivity. The SUV is also equipped with a wireless-charging smartphone system. Customers have the option to choose between a 5,7 or an 8 inches infotainment screens.
The interiors of the 2018 Hyundai Kona are as stylish as the exteriors and the cabin’s upholstery is made up of high-quality materials.  The vehicle looks flamboyant due to the integration of LED lights into sleek headlamp and tail lamp clusters. The headlamps and the fog lamps are located further down the bumper.

The Engine

The 2018 Hyundai Kona that is available in Dubai comes with two engine variants. Customers can choose between 2.0-litre engine and the more powerful 1.6-litre turbocharged engine. The 2.0-litre engine delivers 147 hp that enables the SUV to speed up from 0-100 km/h in 10 seconds. Additionally, the standard SUV model makes the vehicle run with a top speed of 193 km/h. The engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission system. On the other hand, the turbo-engine gives out 175 hp that enables the SUV to zoom to a top speed of 210 km/h in just 7.7 seconds.

The Competition

The 2018 Hyundai Kona competes with Renault Duster, Nissan Kicks and Mazda CX-3.  As of now, the SUV is not sold in the Dubai SUV market and enthusiasts can import the car from abroad. It is interesting to note that Hyundai has positioned the Kona between the Creta and the Tucson in the global market.
