The Hyundai Veloster coupe is known to offer fun and excitement equivalent to a sports cars and its only limitation is that it can’t be driven at a breakneck speed. Hyundai is now broadening its product offering as the 2019 Hyundai Veloster will be offered as a regular version along with a turbocharged version.
Additionally, Hyundai is also launching the Veloster N, a powerful variant, that can confront the Golf GTI head-on. All the three variants were launched at the 2018 Detroit Motor Show and they appear sportier than previous versions.
Exterior Styling
The 2019 Hyundai Veloster has been imparted a style that closely resembles the Elantra’s styling. Even though the new Veloster retains the characteristic stylish grille, it does not have the oversized headlights of the previous version. The headlights have been positioned in an inclined way to give an aggressive look.
At the rear, the taillights have been stylized and they integrate into the clean-looking liftgate. The height and the wheelbase dimensions remain unchanged. The length and the width of the car have been increased by 0.8 and 0.4 inches respectively.
The Powertrain
The engine power of Veloster’s base version remains almost unchanged and the car gets 147 hp power and 132 lb-ft torque by a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine that is either coupled to a 6-speed manual transmission or to a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The 2019 Veloster Turbo will be equipped with a 1.6-litre turbo-4 engine that will deliver a power of 201 hp and a torque of 195 lb-ft. Customers have the choice of buying the Turbo variant with a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The 2019 Veloster N will surely be a treat for performance-oriented fans because the car is powered by 275 hp by a 2-liter turbo-4 engine that also delivers 260 lb-ft torque. The powerful engine is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission system. The car has also been given a sport-tuned exhaust.
The Competition
The Veloster is often compared to other compact cars like Honda CR-Z, MINI Cooper, Scion and the Volkswagen Beetle. In Dubai, the Veloster directly competes with the Ford Focus. It remains to be seen whether the upcoming Veloster N disrupts the competition by superseding sporty Golf GTI in the Dubai market.
