2018 will be the year when pickup truck manufacturers will be coming up with new strategies to capture a greater market share. Fierce competition can be expected amidst key players like Ford, General Motors and Fiat-Chrysler. 2018 began with the news about the upcoming launch of General Motors’s Chervrolet Silverado, a pickup that is poised to contest Ford.
In an attempt to maintain its position as a market leader, Ford is all set to launch the 2019 Ford Ranger which will be launched at the 2018 Detroit Motor Show. Ford is aiming to aggressively increase its sales in the Middle East region and the Ford Ranger is one of its key weapons.
Expectations have been set high from the fuel-efficient mid-size truck as it will soon make its debut in the US market due to high demand. Recently, the pickup truck was spotted on Thailand roads as the model is being thoroughly tested before launch. Not much has been revealed about the powertrain but the recent spy shots reveal some details about its style and framework.
The platform
The 2019 Ford Ranger will be a traditional body-on-frame pickup truck that is designed on the basis of the T6 platform. The new Ford Ranger will have looks that are similar to the existing European version of the Ranger. However, the model has received a substantial facelift and the model might resemble the F-150 model.
Currently, Ford Ranger that is being sold in Dubai comes in five variants, namely Commercial, XL, XLT, Limited and the Wildtrack editions. We can expect the modified versions of XL(Crew Cab) and XLT (Super Cab) to be included in the 2019 Ford Ranger product package. The XL will be marketed as a family truck and the model will be longer than the base model of F-150. On the other hand, the XLT will positioned as a work truck.
The Engine
The engine details have not been revealed and it is speculated that the US market will get a Ford Ranger with either a V6 engine or an EcoBoost five-cylinder engine. As far as Dubai and other parts of the world, the Ford Ranger is equipped with either a 2.2-liter inline-4 or a 3.2-liter inline-5 diesel engine. We will need to wait till engine details are available with regard to the upcoming model. As far as pricing is concerned, the 2019 Ford Ranger should be priced in the range between 92,000-1,30,000
