How the 2018 BMW M5 plans to take on the competition?

The sports sedan market is heating up as luxury automakers are frantically competing with each other to gain an upper hand.  Strengthening their position in the sports sedan market offers a strategic advantage to carmakers like BMW as these vehicles not only attract premium customers but they also manage to entice those aspiring customers who do not mind spending an extra amount to buy high-performance vehicles usually owned by the rich and the famous.

The major battle in the luxury sports sedan segment is between Audi, Mercedes and BMW. The BMW M5 is BMW’s key weapon that is expected to help the carmaker gain an edge over its other German rivals.  The 2018 BMW M5 is touted more as a supercar than a sports car and BMW is stepping up its marketing and advertising budget for generating a hype surrounding the sports sedan.

Recently, BMW released a video that showed the improved handling of the car while it is being driven in a drift mode. While the stunts are good enough to make Mercedes executives sit up and take notice, it is worth to take a look beneath the new BMW M5’s hood.

High-Performance Engine

The newer version of the M5 is more powerful than the outgoing version. The new M5 will be delivered 600 hp by a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 engine. The engine is coupled with an eight-speed automatic transmission system and it has the potential to speed up from 0-60 mph in just 3.2 seconds . The M5’ powerful engine has enabled the car to get closer to Mercedes-AMG E63’s 603 hp benchmark.

The 2018 BMW M5 can be driven at a top speed of 189 mph.  Even though it has an all-wheel drive, the car has can be driven as a rear-wheel drive vehicle because most of the engine’s torque is delivered to the rear vehicles. The driver also an option of decoupling the front axle so that the vehicle entirely becomes a rear-wheel drive vehicle. The drifting stunt in BMW M5’s latest advertisement is based on the intelligent all-wheel drive system and customers will get to see the complete advertisement very soon.

Interiors and pricing

The new BMW M5 retains the interiors of its predecessor and the entire focus of the BMW engineering team has been on the performance improvement aspect of the vehicle.  The only change in the styling is the inclusion of the muscular front fascia that has vents to provide more cooling air to the engine. Additionally, the rooftop is made up of carbon fibre.

The 2018 BMW M5 has a starting price of about AED 60,000. The car is mainly positioned for the aspirational youth of Dubai who have grown up with a dream of owning a luxury vehicle.
