Audi has always taken an aggressive stance while competing with ace rivals like BMW and Mercedes. In fact, it has fought on all fronts to dominate as many niches as possible. However, there was a time when Audi had decided to back out from a niche that has been dominated by cars like the BMW M3 and Mercedes. In 2006, Audi has launched the RS4 sedan was supposed to compete with models from BMW and Mercedes. But the model was short-lived and Audi decided to shift its focus on the RS4 Avant wagon instead. Now, Audi is due to launch the 2018 Audi RS4 Avant and the wagon can prove to be an inspiration for future A4 sedans.
The styling
The 2018 Audi RS4 Avant has all the aggressive features of the previous versions. The front of the wagon retains the characteristic honeycomb grill, Quattro lettering and the RS4 badge. The new RS4 Avant has a sportier bumper with larger air vents. Moreover, the car looks all styled up with matrix LED glow lamp, beefier fenders, sportier side skirts and 20-inch aluminium wheels. The wagon will also be available in popular Nogaro Blue colour.
The engine
The 2018 Audi RS4 Avant is equipped with a 2.9-liter V6 engine that delivers a power of 450 hp and a torque of 443 pound feet. The powerful engine enables the wagon to sprint from 0-62 mph in just 4.1 seconds. The fast speed can also be attributed to the fact that the 2017 RS4 Avant is lighter than its predecessor.
Launch and pricing
The wagon will be first launched in Germany next year and it will be released in other global markets subsequently. The regional release date for the Dubai market is not known. However, it is estimated that prospective customers in Dubai will have to incur the base price of AED 299,000 when the car is first launched in German showrooms. Car experts hold the opinion that an upcoming version of the A4 sedan can be designed by borrowing many features of the new RS4 Avant. In that case, the new A4 will be as good as the latest sedan models from BMW, Mercedes and Cadillac.
