Famously known as the manufacturer of the Beetle, the Volkswagen group has challenged its German counterparts by launching Arteon; a stylish and spacious luxury sedan that has made its debut at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. Basically, Arteon is the next version of the four-door Passat CC and it definitely more stylish and more spacious than its predecessor.
Additionally, the Arteon is longer, has a larger wheelbase and hence it appears stretched out. The cargo room is very large and one can stock extra luggage in the 563 liters of luggage space. The Arteon is designed for long-distance comfort and not just for enjoyable driving. Moreover, the car is equipped with Volkswagen’s drivetrain along with advanced communication systems that ensure safety.
The four-wheel drive sedan receives 280 hp from a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine. The power delivered enables the car to zoom from 0-100 km/h in just 5.6 seconds. Volkswagen says that Arteon must be called a ‘fast back’ instead of a ‘hatchback’ because of the fast speed it can achieve. The car is reportedly faster than BMW 430i Gran Coupe. The sedan also has semi-autonomous features like adaptive cruise control, proactive occupant protection system and emergency side assist.
The launching of Arteon will not be Volkswagen’s first foray in the luxury segment. Earlier, the car maker has launched the Touareg SUV and the Phaeton luxury sedan. However, the Phaeton failed miserably thereby thwarting Volkswagens attempt to establish itself in the luxury segment. Clearly, Volkswagen must have set high hopes on the Arteon.
From a global perspective, the Arteon will not only help Volkswagen to take on premium German car brands but also its Japanese rivals. It is a known fact that 69% of total car sales can be attributed to Japanese cars and majority of these sales come from Dubai. Emiratis looking for precision engineering and better fuel economy will definitely prefer Volkswagen over the Japanese counterparts. The price of Volkswagen in Dubai hasn’t been revealed and eager Emiratis will have to wait till the car debuts in Dubai.
