Mercedes-Benz has always been the second name for luxury and the brand is generally considered as class apart. So it was natural for Mercedes to add some more features and improvements in the 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLS. The 2018 model looks tougher and roomier than its predecessor. And even though the Mercedes GL became the GLS, the model does not differ much from the previous versions. The car length hasn’t changed at all and the only visible difference is the wider grille, thicker horizontal bars on the front and a bigger logo on the car.
Depending on the engine type, there are two variants of the 2018 Mercedes Benz GLS namely, the GLS450 and the GLS550. The GLS450 is equipped with a twin-turbocharged V6 engine that delivers 362 horsepower. On the other hand, the GLS550 comes with a twin-turbocharged V8 that provides 449 horsepower. Both the engines have nine-speed automatic transmission system. The GLS450 delivers a mileage of 17 mpg and 22 mpg in the city and on the highway respectively. The GLS550 gives a mileage of 14 mpg (city) and 19 mpg (highway) respectively.
In contrast to the exteriors, the interiors of the 2018 Merced Benz appear to have undergone some drastic changes. The new GLS has extra wood trim and luxurious leather upholstery with contrasting stitching. The upgradation gives a sense of high luxury. A number of patterns and combinations for the upholstery can be selected. The customers can desire to choose to have panels that are made of carbon fiber, wood veneer or piano black lacquer.
It appears that prospective customers of the 2018 GLS need to be tech-savvy as the car is fitted with aq high-end audio system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Moreover, an in-built ‘mbrace’ system provided access to the cloud-based services that include location-based traffic report, weather updates, automatic collision notification, concierge service and stolen vehicle location assistance.
Overall, Mercedes has got what it wants to take on competitors like Audi, Infiniti and Cadillac. The Mercedes-Benz 2018 GLS450 has a base price of $70,545 while the 2018 GLS550 has a base price of $95,945.
