2019 Mercedes Benz C-Class sedan: Will Technology drive success?

In recent years, Mercedes-Benz has earned the reputation of driving innovation through technology.  So it is not surprising to learn that the upcoming 2019 Mercedes Benz C Class sedan will be laden with latest technological features.

The luxury car will be unveiled at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show and it will primarily competing with Audi A4, BMW 3-series, Cadillac ATS, Infiniti Q50 and Lexus IS.  Primarily, the upgraded version of the Mercedes Benz C300 sedan is designed to supersede the 2018 Audi A4 which has won accolades for its high-tech features that include the Virtual Cockpit.  Other than technology, the new C300 also excels in delivering more power than its predecessor.

More powerful

The base version of the new 2019 Mercedes-Benz C300 model will be equipped by a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that delivers 255 hp and a torque of 273 pound-feet. The engine is coupled to a nine-speed automatic transmission system. The model will be available in a rear-wheel drive version as well as an all-wheel drive version.

The engine will be delivering 14 hp more than the previous model and the C300’s top speed will be 130 mph. Mercedes-Benz claims that the upcoming model will also have an improved fuel efficiency but it is difficult to ascertain this fact without valid EPA figures.  One can expect plug-in hybrid variants to be launched much later after the C300 makes its debut.

Apart from being equipped with a powerful engine, the 2010 C300 is also equipped with safety and autonomous technologies that are also found in the E-class.

Technology features

The sedan’s camera and radar system drives the semi-autonomous driving function.  The camera can scan objects within 1,640 feet range and the radar objects that are within a range of 820 feet in the front, 130 feet on the sides and 260 feet in the rear.

The setup also relies on navigation system map data to  provide inputs to the Active Distance Assist Distronic which is an advanced version of adaptive cruise control.  The inputs enable the system to slow down automatically  depending on the the bends, tolls, turns and intersections.

Other standard safety features include active blind-spot assist, active lane assist, automatic lane change and evasive steering assist system. The 2019 Mercedes-Benz C-class sedan will get a new digital instrument cluster.

Mercedes-Benz’s technological prowess might give it an edge over its usual German rivals. However, the evolving Dubai car market will also see the popularity of electric luxury cars like the Tesla Model 3 which will be C300’s prime competitor in the long run. Will C-segment models like C300 manage to gain an edge in the electric future? Please do let us know your thoughts and comments.
